Description
First edition cover art. Catch-22 is a satirical novel by the American author Joseph Heller. Published in 1961, it is set during World War II in 1943 and is frequently cited as one of the great literary works of the twentieth century. It uses a distinctive non-chronological third-person omniscient narration, describing events from different characters' points of view and out of sequence so that the time line develops along with the plot. Catch-22 is a general critique of bureaucratic operation and reasoning. The cover artist; Paul Bacon (born December 25, 1923), is an American book and album cover designer and jazz musician. He is known for introducing the "Big Book Look" in book jacket design, and has designed about 6,500 jackets and more than 200 jazz record covers.
