Description
Remember the Carpathia RMS Carpathia surrounded by a decorative flowered memorial border with gold trim. Actually the ship pictured is really not the Carpathia as it has an American flag and two funnels (the Carpathia had only one). Built for the Cunard Line as a transatlantic passenger ship, the Carpathia first achieved public attention when, in 1912, it rescued 706 survivors at sea from the sinking of another famous ship, the RMS Titanic. On July 17, 1918, it was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of Ireland by a German submarine. The HMS Snowdrop was able to rescue 157 passengers of its passengers and the surviving crew.
